What is a metaverse anyway?
Telling the story of such a fast-evolving ecosystem was a challenge in itself — I akin to writing while on top of quick sand. I remember working on the first chapter with Arunkumar Krishnakumar in July 2022, while admiring the stunning view of Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong during my week of quarantine, (before I was able to see my parents). I remember the anxiety of embarking on the journey of writing the second book on a topic that was so new to me, and the excitement of learning something different and meeting people at the forefront of technology. I remember trying to understand the different terms and concepts in the ecosystem — which at times felt like an alien language. (Thank you Polly Jean Harrison for noticing the glossary of terms and the lack of jargon in the book ... that was absolutely intentional after my crash course last year.)
The past year has been a wondrous learning experience for me in this whole new world. But the exciting part isn't just about getting the book published. Rather, it is about opening the doors to bring in more people from different corners of the world into the community. It is about telling the stories of those who might be outside of our ecosystem so that we can cross-pollinate ideas as we build the next version of the internet.
"There are no women in the web3 world" is nothing but a lazy excuse to not look beyond your little black book or comfort zone. The future is — and can be inclusive — if we are intentional about it.
Thank you to the amazing The Fintech Times team for taking the time to read and review The Metaverse Economy. Special thanks to Polly Jean Harrison, Claire Woffenden, Raf De Kimpe, Mark Walker, and Jason Williams for your support — from Beyond Good ... and beyond — as we look towards the future. 💜
